Carlos Leitão earned his Bachelor of Economics from McGill University. He has more than 30 years experience in banking and financial services. During his career, he has worked at major banks, including the Royal Bank of Canada and Laurentian Bank Securities, where he held the position of Chief Economist. In addition, he served on Laurentian Bank's Management Committee and the Risk Management Committee for many years. He was also a member of Bank of Canada's Quebec Panel.
Over the years, he has become acquired tremendous insight in Quebec, Canada and U.S. economic and financial matters. Through his research publications and news reports on major economic developments, Carlos Leitão has provided highly strategic advice to companies and institutions throughout the country. His ability to articulate the major trends shaping financial markets has earned him a solid reputation with today's leading economists from the prestigious U.S. magazine, Bloomberg, considered a benchmark in the industry.
Mr. Leitão has been the MNA for the riding of Robert-Baldwin since the April 7, 2014 election and the Quebec Minister of Finance since April 23 of the same year. He is also a member of the Comité ministériel de l’économie, de la création d’emplois et du développement durable.
