A native of Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Germain Chevarie is the current Member of the National Assembly since the 7th of April 2014. He actually combines the functions of Parliamentary Assistant of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and of Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister responsible for the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region.

Mr. Chevarie earned a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Moncton in 1976, a Masters in Management & Organizational Development from Université Laval in 1997 and a Master of Public Administration from École Nationale d'Administration publique de Montréal in 1999.

Starting in 1976, he was a probation officer at the Centre de services sociaux de la Gaspésie et des Îles-de-la-Madeleine. In 1978, he became the Executive Director of the Centre de travail et de transition des Îles de mars. He remained in his position until 1986, when he was appointed Executive Director of the Hôpital and Centre local de services communautaires des Îles-de-la-Madeleine. In 2004, he became the Executive Director of the centre de santé et de services sociaux des Îles-de-la-Madeleine and stayed at this post until his election.

Germain Chevarie was elected the Liberal MNA for Îles-de-la-Madeleine in 2008. He was appointed Vice President of the Commission des institutions for the period of February 10-15, 2011 and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Social Services for the period between February 16, 2011 and August 1, 2012.

Mr. Chevarie is also very active in the community. He was a director and the Vice Chairman of the Diffusion communautaire des Îles Board from 1980 to 1982 and a member of the Association des directeurs généraux des services de santé et des services sociaux du Québec from 1990 to 2008. In addition, he was an executive member of the Îles-de-la-Madelaine RCM’s Commission de développement socio-économique from 1993 to 1997, a member of Îles-de-la-Madelaine’s Réseau intégré de communications électroniques Board from 2003 to 2008 and a member of the Regional Committee of the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de la Gaspésie et des Îles-de-la-Madeleine from October 2004 to July 2008.

A born leader, Germain Chevarie would like to return to the National Assembly and serve his birthplace.
