Jean D'Amour is married to Maryse Bourgoin, pharmacist and they have four children. M. D’Amour has always been committed to his home region.
A journalist and radio host at CJFP, CKRT and CIMT-TV from 1984 to 1988, he chose to get involved in provincial politics, becoming a policy aide to the MNA for Rivière-du-Loup, a position he held from 1988 to in 1994. After returning to the world of media from 1994 to 1997, serving as news editor for radio CJFP and CIBM, he became CEO of the Rivière-du-Loup Chamber of Commerce until 1999. He later became Director of Business Development for BPR Infrastructure, from 2007 to 2009.
He was first elected in 1999, as mayor of the town of Rivière-du-Loup and president of the Rotary Club (1999-2000). He continues in office as a mayor until 2007 and made the economy his priority. With the help of community stakeholders, M. D’Amour set the town apart and intensified its development. During this period, he served on the board of directors of the Union des municipalités du Québec for two years from 2005 to 2007. In 2008, he was elected by QLP members, president of the Quebec Liberal Party for over a year.
He became, on June 22, 2009, the liberal Member of National Assembly for Rivière-du-Loup. He was, from February 10, 2011, the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife.
M. D’Amour was re-elected on September 4, 2012 and on April 7, 2014.
He is a man of many projects and achievements.
