Resident of La Prairie for over 21 years, Richard Merlini is married and the father of three children. He was Member of the National Assembly for the riding of Chambly from March 2007 until December 2008. He is the MNA of La Prairie since April 7, 2014.
He graduated in Sciences at André-Grasset college in Montreal in 1984 and graduated in 1988 with a diploma in Political Science and History from Concordia University.
In 1988, Richard Merlini became Vice-President of a printing company in St-Lambert, where he remained until his election to the National Assembly in 2007. He was then named Energy Critic for the Official Opposition until the December 2008 election. In February 2009, back in the business world, he became Vice-President and General Manager of a printing company, a position he held until September 2012.
Richard Merlini is involved in his community and in politics ever since he was a student. Member of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce from 1991 to 1995; President of the La Prairie Association of business people from 1994 to 1995; also a soccer coach for many years, these are but a few of his community involvements. He started in politics as President of the Liberal Youth Commission for the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of La Prairie from 1984 to 1991. Also, he was President of the Quebec Liberal Party Association for the riding of La Prairie from 2001 to 2003.
An experienced businessman, Richard Merlini is also a man devoted to his family and his community.
