Born in Chicoutimi in 1950, Serge Simard is the former member of the provincial riding of Dubuc in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. He is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier for the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.
Mr. Simard earned his Bachelor of Organizational Management from Université Laval in 1998.
His career spans 30 years with the Desjardins Group. Between 1980 and 1993, he was the Director of the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. During this period, he was also a Director at La Sauvegarde, an insurance company (1984-1988) and Vice-Chairman of the Desjardins Life Insurance Board of Directors (1988-1993).
He entered politics in 2002, and was elected and re-elected until 2008 as city councillor for the City of Saguenay. In the provincial election of 2008, Mr. Simard won the confidence of Dubuc’s citizens and entered the National Assembly. In December of the same year, he was appointed Minister for Natural Resources and Wildlife. He remained in this position until the election in 2012.
A man of commitment, Serge Simard was a member of the Boards of Coopérative socioculturelle du Vieux théâtre from 2000 to 2002, Corporation du théâtre du Palais municipal from 2002 to 2008, Conférence régionale des élus (CRÉ) from 2003 to 2008 and Bagotville Air Defence Museum from 2004 to 2009. In 2004, he became the President of the Corporation de l'aérogare de Bagotville. He remained in this position until 2009. From 2006 to 2008 he was President of the CRÉ and a member of the Local Development Centre Board.
With his extensive parliamentary experience, Serge Simard will once again meet and defend the interests of the Dubuc community.
