MONTRÉAL, March 16, 2018 – The Quebec government is providing $7,500,000 in financial assistance to the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (OSM). Marie Montpetit, Minister of Culture and Communications and Minister responsible for the Protection and Promotion of the French Language, made the announcement during a concert given by the orchestra at the Maison Symphonique.
The Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal plays an invaluable role in the cultural vitality of Quebec. This institution offers an important showcase for Quebec talent and is also recognized internationally for the quality and innovation of its productions. The financial assistance announced today by our government will enable the OSM to successfully continue its production, distribution and promotion of symphonic music.

This financial support will help the OSM maintain its place among the great classical music groups in North America, thus raising the profile of Montréal and Quebec on the international stage. It will also enable the OSM to make classical music even more accessible, particularly through its community initiatives and education programs. This democratization and popularization work is at the heart of the OSM’s mission.
