$8.70 a Day Childcare Services for All Children

Quebec is currently experiencing an unprecedented crisis in the child-care sector. Since the CAQ’s arrival to power, the waiting list for a space has skyrocketed, reaching historic levels, family daycare workers have left the network en masse, resulting in the loss of thousands of spaces for children, nearly 4,000 private childcare spaces have closed, and the spaces promised by the CAQ are only trickling in.

A Liberal government will make access to $8.70 a day child care spaces a right for all Quebecers, in the same way as attending school is a right. “We would never accept that a 7-year-old cannot attend school because of a lack of space, why would we tolerate that for our little ones? If we were truly prioritizing our children’s development, we would never accept even a single child being left on a waiting list!” declared Dominique Anglade, Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party.

It is a measure that falls within the Quebec Liberal Party’s Pocketbook Plan to address the rising cost of living, which could save up to $14,000 per child for a family that is currently paying for private child care.

The QLP has made a choice- we have chosen families. Too many families are without child care spaces. Too many families are forced to make financial sacrifices so that they can afford to send their children to childcare. We cannot just give up as the CAQ has done. We are offering a real solution to parents throughout Quebec.
