The Premier Is Not Taking the ABI File Seriously
Since his election as Premier, François Legault has shown his true colours in the private labour dispute at Aluminerie de Bécancour (ABI), blaming the steelworkers’ union for their demands on many occasions.
Today the union filed a complaint with the International Labour Organization to denounce statements the Premier made at their expense.
The MNA representing Vimont and Liberal critic for Labour, Ethics and Integrity in Public Procurement, Mr. Jean Rousselle, questioned the Premier over the last few months asking what the government’s next steps would be to put an end to this labour dispute which is affecting close to 900 workers. It continues to be radio silence from the government.
The complaint filed this morning by the steelworkers’ union demonstrates the absurdity of the Premier’s interventions in this file. Mr. Legault must immediately cease his interference and, with the help of his Labour Minister, Mr. Jean Boulet, develop solutions that will lead to an agreement. I am concerned about the workers and their families; they’re at the end of their rope. The plant needs to be operational again soon.
