Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion
QUEBEC, December 19, 2018. – The MNA representing Fabre and Official Opposition Critic for Social Solidarity, Ms. Monique Sauvé, reacted strongly to the Coalition Avenir Québec’s (CAQ) decision to decrease benefits for handicapped people living in intermediate resources or in family environments. It is urgent for the government to increase this amount before January 1st, when the new measure is to come into effect.
The previous government, with its Action Plan to Combat Poverty, had planned to increase the monthly social solidarity benefits by $100 for handicapped people living in intermediate resources or in family environments.
On the one hand, the CAQ acknowledges the planned increase to benefits for handicapped people living at home but, on the other, the CAQ has utterly abandoned handicapped people living in intermediate resources or in family environments. There’s no equity! I am alarmed by this situation and demand that Minister Boulet reconsider his decision.
