The MNA representing Mille-Îles and Official Opposition Critic for Forests, Wildlife and Parks, Ms. Francine Charbonneau, lamented the lack of substance and reiterated her disappointment at today’s government announcement regarding reforms to the forestry regime.
After seven years of operations under the current regime, Premier Legault had set the bar high with the promise of major reforms. For the past few months, however, the CAQ has been backpedalling in an effort to lower expectations.
Today’s announcement does not meet the relevant demands made by the sector concerning the predictability of cutting capacity, timber valuation and the ability to make adjustments to allow for more agility in the field.
The industry has identified the weakness that it can correct. François Legault promised to fix the problems with the forestry regime, but the reality is that he is just putting them off. There has been no progress for the sector when it comes to predictability, efficacy or efficiency. They announced an elephant and gave us a mouse!
