QUÉBEC CITY, July 4, 2018 – Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and for Housing, announced an increased investment of nearly $1 million for community support that will improve the assistance provided each year to the tenant associations of the approximately 74,000 low-rent housing units in Québec.

This investment will increase the financial support by $3, from $17 to $20 per year per unit, in all regions of Québec. This increase will be followed by five successive indexations of $2 by 2023, which will bring government assistance to $30 per year per unit.

The amounts paid to tenant associations are intended to improve tenant well-being and quality of life by offering neighbourhood services as well as recreational, educational and cultural activities. The funds also facilitate initiatives that encourage the participation of tenants in the management of their HLM.

Quote:

Our government recognizes the importance of improving the quality of life of families and people living in low-rent housing. Tenant associations play a key role in this by offering a variety of activities that promote good neighbourliness and increase the involvement of residents in their community and in the management of their HLM. The announced assistance provides the associations with funding that better meets their needs.

– Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and for Housing and Minister responsible for the Lanaudière region
