Fees Henceforth Charged at Entrance of Chutes-Montmorency Park : The CAQ refuses to maintain free access

Frais dorénavant chargés à l’entrée du parc des Chutes-Montmorency : la CAQ refuse de conserver l’accès gratuit

Today the MNA representing Laval-des-Rapides and Official Opposition Critic for Energy, Natural Resources and Forests, Wildlife and Parks, Mr. Saul Polo, presented a motion at the National Assembly asking the government to go back on its decision and make access to the Chutes-Montmorency Park free for visitors once again. The CAQ refused to consent to the motion’s adoption.

The proposed motion reads as follows: “That the National Assembly recognize the importance of the population having access to Quebec’s parks;

That it bear in mind that the Chutes-Montmorency Park, one of the Capitale-Nationale’s main tourist attractions, is the only park in an urban setting that is administered by the SÉPAQ;

That it denounce the SÉPAQ’s decision to impose an entrance fee at the Chutes-Montmorency Park;

That it ask the government to overturn its decision and reinstate free access immediately;”

The Chutes-Montmorency Park is truly one of Quebec City’s tourism jewels. Its location in an urban setting must ensure its accessibility to as many people as possible. I am disappointed with the government’s lack of willingness to overturn the decision to impose a fee to visitors who are demanding free access.
