The Minister in charge of Indigenous Affairs, Sylvie D’Amours was questionned on numerous issues regarding the study of budgetary appropriations and it is abundantly clear that she is abandonning indigenous peoples.

The Official Opposition Critic for Indigenous Affairs, Gregory Kelley, has demonstrated that the followup to recommendations from the Viens inquiry were not followed with any sort of rigour. Many questions remain unanswered concerning the management of educational services for indigenous children in anticipation of a possible 2nd wave of Covid-19 and the indigenous chiefs do not feel supported by the minister.

I can observe that after 1 year and following the tabling of two (2) investigation reports concerning our relationship with indigenous communities, only 45 of the 142 recommendations are being considered. There are still so many indigenous women and children living through horrible situations and I firmly believe that education and academic success must be accompanied by more concrete mesures to further support them. It is for all these reasons that we are demanding better collaboration with the governement on behalf of all indigenous communities.

–Mr. Gregory Kelley, MNA for Jacques-Cartier and Official Opposition Critic for Indigenous Affairs.
