Free Public Transportation for Students and Seniors

The Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, Dominique Anglade, is committed to introducing free public transportation for all students and seniors aged 65 and up.

This important Quebec Liberal Party Pocketbook Plan measure will help reduce pressure on the pocketbooks of students’ and seniors’ who are particularly affected by the impacts of the cost of living.

In addition to making public transit more accessible, this measure will be an important incentive for more Quebecers to use public transit, thereby contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions produced by Quebec’s transportation sector. It will also contribute to reducing traffic and make travel easier and faster for everyone.

Finally, Ms. Anglade underscored that offering free public transit will be at no cost to public transit authorities, as they will benefit from full financial compensation from the government of Quebec. The QLP is also counting on the student community becoming more accustomed to public transportation and continuing to use it when they enter the workforce.

Encouraging greater use of public transportation is not only an important economic measure, but also a major commitment to the environment. The cost of using modes of public transportation should never be a barrier to students and seniors.
