This morning, the Liberal Critic for Families, Ms. Jennifer Maccarone, accompanied by the Director General of Ressource Espace Famille, Ms. Cindy-Lee McKenzie, called on the Minister for Families to provide the funding required for this Quebec City organization to stay afloat.

Ressource Espace Famille, which supports and accompanies over 600 families, will have to close its doors in June if the ministry does not adjust the funding it receives. The organization offers food assistance, francization activities for newcomers, and above all support to counter the isolation that hundreds of families experience. Over the past few years, its clientele has grown steadily, in particular among newcomers to Quebec. The organization helps them to integrate within Quebec society.

The previous Liberal government had recognized the organization as a Family community organization in 2017 and had announced additional funding of $30M over 3 years for that type of organization. But rather than fund organizations that do not receive funding like Ressource Espace Famille, the government has chosen to distribute the money among organizations that already receive financial support.

“The government had the financial leeway to fund this organization but has decided not to do so. Today, the CAQ government must acknowledge the impact its decisions have on families in need in Quebec City, take swift action and provide funding for the organization as quickly as possible so that these families are not left without services.”
