Helping our farmers feed Quebecers year after year

Farmers are facing growing challenges, in particular due to the inflation crisis, increased input costs, urban sprawl and climate change. It is becoming increasingly difficult to be a farmer and to ensure the profitability of one’s business.

At the QLP, we are listening to farmers’ pleas for a revision of government programs to ensure that they are adapted to farmers current realities. We are committed to always being a partner in the development and accompaniment offered to all farmers.

Our political party is proposing real solutions to farmers’ real issues. That is why we are committed to working with farmers to completely revise of the Financière Agricole’s
programs, so that we are better able to address the issues related to the climate crisis and help young farmers develop more rapidly. We also want to reform the Act Respecting the Preservation of Agricultural Land and Agricultural Activities to help farmers cope with urban sprawl and enhance protection for agricultural activities.

We will support the next generations of farmers’ efforts by working with them to develop through:

  • Providing young farmers with a helping hand through a tax incentive when land is sold to the next generation;
  • Regulating on the acquisition of agricultural lands by people who do not intend to practise agriculture on lands with high agronomic potential;
  • Subdividing agricultural lands to encourage the next generation of farmers, while ensuring that it does not become an open bar.

Farmers are pillars of Quebec’s economy; we need them as much as they need us. At the QLP, we have heard their plea and are committed to providing our agricultural sector with the tools it needs so that it is able to continue to fulfill its mission of contributing fully to Quebec’s economic development.
