Closing of the forum on best practices for home support
Montréal, May 26, 2017. – At the end of the forum on best practices for home support, Gaétan Barrette, Minister of Health and Social Services, as well as all the CEOs in the health and social services network, made firm commitments to improve the home support services offered to the people of Quebec.
During this forum, Minister Barrette was accompanied by Francine Charbonneau, Minister responsible for Seniors and Anti-Bullying, and Marie Montpetit, his Parliamentary Assistant and Member for Crémazie.
CEO commitments
At the end of the forum, the CEOs committed to implementing the best practices presented by the experts during the past two days, and more specifically to strengthening home support teams, getting to know their regions’ clientele better and providing personalized support for these people.
The Minister’s commitments
Minister Barette announced an additional recurring budget of $69 million to improve home support services. Of this sum, $60 million will be invested to hire staff to expand teams. Other amounts will be devoted to purchasing equipment ($3.5 million), a training program on electronic care pathways and other best practices ($2.5 million), and coordinating interprofessional teams ($3 million). With this sum, the government will have invested an additional $520 million for home support services since it came to power.
It also committed to making information on waiting lists available, implementing interprofessional clinical training units, publishing a reference framework for home support services and increasing the availability of equipment required to increase users’ autonomy at home. It will also follow up on the commitments made by the CEOs, by monitoring results and ensuring accountability.

The implementation of these commitments will be followed up with the network, in particular as regards the number of users who benefit from home support, the number of hours of direct service devoted to the clientele, the relevance of the services provided according to user profiles and the decreased use of emergency rooms.
