QUEBEC, February 14, 2019. – The MNA for Bourassa-Sauvé and Official Opposition Critic for International Relations and La Francophonie, Paule Robitaille, denounces the insufficient funding offered by the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, Nadine Girault, to hold the Jeux de la Francophonie in Sherbrooke.
The Jeux de la Francophonie brings together young Francophones from across the whole world and puts our pride in living our lives in French on display. It is a wonderful showcase for Quebec and includes an important cultural component. Not only have the government and Minister Girault demonstrated a lack of leadership in this file, they are passing the bill on to the Federal government, which has already made a firm commitment to match funds from the government of Quebec and the City of Sherbrooke in order to hold the games.
Minister Girault needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with a winning solution for everyone. The funding announced yesterday by the provincial government is absolutely insufficient, which means the government has responded indirectly with a resounding “no”. Clearly, they are not interested in holding these games.
