Local and regional information matter to me

Given the crisis that Quebec media are currently experiencing, the MNA representing Verdun and Liberal Critic for Culture and Communications, Ms. Isabelle Melançon, is inviting the population to mobilize by being part of a support movement launched by the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (#FPJQ).

Ms. Melançon wants Quebecers to post pictures of their local daily or weekly newspapers, or local radio or television stations on their social media accounts. Local and regional media are essential to knowing what is going on in our neighbourhoods, our cities and our regions.

Ms. Melançon recalls that as of Monday a parliamentary committee on the future of information media will be held at the National Assembly. By supporting this mobilization, the MNA representing Verdun wants to send the Minister of Culture and Communications, Ms. Nathalie Roy, a clear message that local and regional media matter to Quebecers.

The MNA hopes the Minister will lend an attentive ear to this committee as it will hear from a number of stakeholders proposing long-term solutions to ensure our local and regional media’s survival.

As a society how do we want to be informed in the future and what kind of information do we want? For me the answer is simple: local and regional information matter to me. That is why I am joining my voice to the movement launched by the #FPJQ and I encourage the population of Quebec to do the same in support of our media.
