En route to the 2018 general election

Chicoutimi, May 18, 2018. – Philippe Couillard, Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP), Premier of Québec, Minister responsible for the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region and MNA for Roberval, announced the nomination of Marie-Josée Morency as the official QLP candidate in the riding of Chicoutimi for the upcoming 2018 general election.

Marie-Josée Morency has great experience in the economic and social life of the region of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. She held the positions of executive director and spokesperson for the Saguenay-Le Fjord chamber of commerce and industry from 2010 to 2017. Ms. Morency has worked with Promotion Saguenay, the Saguenay chapter of the Association provinciale des constructeurs d’habitation du Québec (APCHQ), and the Saguenay chapter of the Quebec Cystic Fibrosis Association (QCFA). This experience in the region has allowed her to develop extensive knowledge of the issues and realities of the riding of Chicoutimi. Her remarkable background in community work makes her the perfect candidate to represent the residents of Chicoutimi.

I am very proud to run as a candidate in the October general election. I will make use of my experience, my meticulousness, my positive leadership and my desire to work with everyone in the community to promote Chicoutimi.

Marie-Josée Morency, Liberal candidate for the 2018 general election.

Note that the Liberal government has balanced our public finances to give us the means to invest more in our priorities. Since May 2014, more than 224,800 jobs have been created in Québec; the unemployment rate has been at an all-time low for several months; over 1 million Quebecers now have access to a family doctor; taxes have decreased; and major investments have been made in health and education, in particular.

Marie-Josée has deep roots in her community; she understands and has the same concerns as her fellow residents. In her previous roles, she contributed greatly to advancing Québec and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. I am convinced that she is the best person to continue to advance the interests of the population of Chicoutimi at the National Assembly. I promised that we would have the strongest team to present to Quebecers for the next election, and with this nomination, we are delivering once again on that promise.

– Philippe CouillardPremier of Québec.

I intend to go out and meet with residents, organizations, companies and officials right away in order to learn about their priorities. I am able to bring people together, and I have always cared about working with others to develop a shared vision and promote the regions. Québec’s wealth depends on its regions, and Chicoutimi has the potential for great appeal. I intend to work in collaboration with the towns near greater Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean so that we can be stronger together.
