En route to the 2018 general election

Montréal, June 19, 2018 – Surrounded by over 150 party members and supporters, Marie Montpetit, MNA for Crémazie, Minister of Culture and Communications and Minister responsible for the Protection and Promotion of the French language, was nominated as the official candidate for the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) in the riding of Maurice-Richard for the upcoming 2018 general election scheduled for October 1.

For more than four years now, I have represented the voices of the people of Maurice-Richard at the National Assembly, which for me is a great privilege and an honour. It is with confidence and conviction that I will seek re-election on October 1. I am very proud of the work done in this area, including several completed projects that have improved the quality of life of the people here. Consider the 15 schools that have been or will be expanded or renovated, including École Sophie-Barat. Consider the protection of our heritage, whether it be through the restoration of the Church of La Visitation, or through the protection of heritage sites, such as Fort Lorette. Consider the new birthing centre that will be established north of Henri-Julien Park. I intend to maintain this momentum and continue to work to improve the quality of life in our area.

I strongly believe in politics at the community level, and I still wish to serve the people of Maurice-Richard, to work toward their dreams and aspirations, and also to listen to their needs and concerns. Since 2014, hundreds of people have been supported through their difficulties or assisted in bringing their plans to fruition by our team.

Out of 8 million Quebecers, only 125 people get to be MNAs, and only one gets to represent the most beautiful riding in Québec—Maurice-Richard! I’m 38 and I have served as Minister of Culture and Communications since October 11, an instrumental ministry for our development as a society. I’m lucky!

– Marie Montpetit, Minister of Culture and Communication, Minister responsible for the Protection and Promotion of the French Language and Liberal candidate for the 2018 general election.

Note that the Liberal government has balanced our public finances to give us the means to invest more in our priorities. Since May 2014, more than 229,500 jobs have been created in Québec; the unemployment rate has been at an all-time low for several months; over 1,000,000 Quebecers now have access to a family doctor; taxes have decreased; and major investments have been made, particularly in health and education.

On October 1, I am confident that the people of Maurice-Richard will choose a government that has been proven economically, that has invested more than any other in culture, education and health, that has a team that combines youth and experience, and that knows the area, its people and its reality. I am confident that on October 1, the people of Maurice-Richard will choose the Quebec Liberal Party.
