The Liberal Finance Critic, Mr. Carlos J. Leitâo, salutes the work accomplished by the outgoing President and Director General of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Mr. Michael Sabia, and congratulates the new President Director-General, Mr. Charles Émond, on his nomination.

Under Mr. Sabia’s leadership, the Caisse diversified its portfolios and committed to playing a role in Quebec’s development by being competitive, all the while retaining its independence from the government. Mr. Émond’s nomination therefore marks continuity in the Caisse’s involvement in Quebec’s economic growth.

The relevance of Mr. Emond’s experience will lead the Caisse to new heights, especially in terms of our local economy. Mr. Émond’s achievements when he was at the Scotia Bank will reveal themselves to be major assets for Quebec’s prosperity. Mr. Émond was also a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Bombardier Transport boards of administration.

Mr. Sabia has left an indelible and considerable mark on Quebec’s business and finance worlds. We would like to thank him for his service, as well as welcome his successor, Mr. Émond. He will surely be able to propel the Caisse de Dépôt to new heights.

—Mr. Carlos J. Leitâo, Official Opposition Critic for Finance
