The Liberal Critic for Forests, Wildlife and Parks, Mr. Gregory Kelley, is asking the government to table its vision for economic recovery in the forestry sector. The forestry industry is an important economic driver for our regions and it is imperative that the government think of the thousands of families who live off the economic benefits of this industry.

The Official Opposition also notes that the Government of Quebec’s efforts have not been as strong as those of other Canadian provinces when it comes to their representations to the federal government in defence of jobs in the natural resources sector.

Minister Dufour has told us that announcements are forthcoming in this industry, but in the meantime, our forestry companies are losing contracts while waiting for a serious plan. It is urgent for the minister to make the necessary representations to reassure sector stakeholders. Quebec is the province with the most Canadian forestry industry jobs, we cannot simply forget about them. We need to offer direct support.

–Gregory Kelley, MNA representing Jacques-Cartier and Liberal Critic for Forests, Wildlife and Parks.
