Québec City, October 5, 2018. – Mr. Pierre Arcand, MNA for Mont-Royal-Outremont, has been chosen by his colleagues to be the Interim Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP).
Following the resignation of Quebec Liberal Party Leader Philippe Couillard, the Liberal caucus held a vote to determine who would take the reins until a new leader is officially elected.
First, I want to recognize the work done by Mr. Philippe Couillard, who has given Québec the means to achieve its ambitions. We have much to do to win back the people of Québec. First, we and our members need to identify and understand the causes that led to last Monday’s election results. As many have often said, our party has been able to renew itself for more than 150 years. We have the experience and determination to do so once again.
– Pierre Arcand, MNA for Mont-Royal-Outremont, and Interim Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party
A unifying man
Mr. Arcand was first elected in 2007 in the riding of Mont-Royal. During his political career, he has headed four ministries, namely the Ministère des Relations internationales, the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs, the Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles and the Secrétariat du Conseil du trésor.
I am a team player. I have always been there to help the party and the MNAs, and I will continue to be. Throughout my career, I have been called upon to lead many teams. Even in the most difficult times, I was able to bring people together and deal with problems adeptly and respectfully. We have much work to do, and I know that I can count on an experienced team. The Quebec Liberal Party is 150 years old. We have made history in Québec and will continue to do so.
