QUÉBEC CITY, February 9, 2018—Fifty-two Quebec athletes representing eight sports and fourteen disciplines will participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, which are taking place in South Korea from February 9 to 25, 2018. The Canadian delegation will also be relying on the expertise of sixteen coaches from Quebec in seven athletic disciplines.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard and Sébastien Proulx, Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports and Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, wish the best of success to participating Quebec athletes. They also invite everyone to cheer them on by using the hashtag #avecnosathlètes.

To help athletes achieve the highest levels of sports performance, the Government of Quebec supports them with its Programme Équipe Québec. It also offers support to coaches who accompany elite athletes and encourages the professionalization of top-level athletic coaching.

Quotes:

The athletes and coaches that are representing us in PyeongChang are helping to put Quebec on the map. They are truly great examples of determination and perseverance. They have put countless hours and effort into succeeding in making a space for themselves at the Olympics. Overcoming obstacles and many trials, they demonstrate the importance of perseverance in achieving our dreams. Together with all Quebecers, I wish them an excellent Olympics. Know that here in Quebec, we will be following your performances. We are with you and we believe in you.

– Philippe Couillard, Premier of Quebec

Athletes who reach the top level in their disciplines and win medals from around the world are role models who inspire many young people everywhere in Quebec. They dedicate time, effort and determination to honing their craft and must show a great determination to join the global elite.
