The Leader of the Official Opposition and Critic responsible for the Charter for Regions, Ms. Dominique Anglade, is asking the Legault government to financially assist the families in Mauricie who have still not been able to test their homes for traces of pyrrhotite.
There are currently over 3000 homes in Mauricie that have not been tested for traces of pyrrhotite. The test costs approximately $3,000. At the National Assembly I asked François Legault for his government to offer financial assistance to those citizens who are still living through this nightmare so many years later. As Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, I know how difficult the situation is for these families. I also know that it is a legal crusade for them- one that has included personal suffering and distress which have undermined the simple dream of owning one’s own home. My message to these families is the following: our regions must be at the heart of the Quebec Government’s decisions and concerns. That’s what truly believing in economic development as a means of enhancing citizens’ quality of life is all about.
–Dominique Anglade, Leader of the Official Opposition and Critic responsible for the Charter for Regions.
Recall that since the implementation of the Société d’Habitation du Québec’s program for victims of pyrrhotite by the Liberal government in 2011, $84M has been invested.
