The Quebec Liberal Party (QLP), with the agreement of both candidates, will be suspending the QLP leadership race until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) that Quebec is currently facing.
“The QLP’s Executive Committee has been following the situation’s daily evolution for the past week. The committee gathered once again today to discuss the leadership race in these exceptional circumstances. It was decided that the leadership race will be suspended until further notice and a new calendar will be established without delay once the crisis has subsided. Our priority is to demonstrate solidarity with Quebec’s entire population”, declared Linda Caron, President of the QLP.
“Quebec is facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions and our priority must be offering strong contributions to the collective efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19. The Party’s decision allows us to focus all of our energy in the right place during these difficult times. As the MNA representing Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne, I will continue to ensure the well-being of the citizens in my riding and will maintain my role as the Official Opposition Critic for Economy”, declared Dominique Anglade, leadership candidate.
“I would like to salute the decision made by the members of the Party’s executive to suspend the QLP leadership race and assure them of my full collaboration and that of my team. This decision will enable us all, supporters, MNAs and both candidates, to focus on what is most important- doing everything we can to fight the pandemic that we are currently facing”, declared Alexandre Cusson, leadership candidate.
Please note that the QLP also maintains its decision to cancel all public activities and gatherings until further notice, in compliance with the guidelines issued by the Public Health Directorate in the interest of everyone’s health and safety.
