Rafael P. Ferraro Named Elections Chair for the PLQ’s Leadership Race


Montreal, March 5, 2019. – On Monday night, in accordance with the QLP’s Constitution and General Regulations, the Quebec Liberal Party’s Executive Committee unanimously nominated Mr. Rafael P. Ferraro as Elections Chair for the Party’s leadership race.

Mr. Rafael P. Ferraro holds a Bachelor’s degree in law, a Master’s degree in business administration and is currently a lawyer at the firm of Gowling WLG (Canada) where he works within the commercial litigation team. He has been a member of the QLP since 2010 and has occupied various volunteer positions within the party over the years, including communications coordinator for the Commission-Jeunesse, President of the Montérégie-West Regional Council and, more recently, President of the Legal Committee since July of 2018.

The role of Elections Chair for the Party’s leadership race consists mainly of forming a team to determine the regulations for electing a leader and submitting them to the Executive Committee for ratification. This process is conducted while in constant consultation with members and all bodies within the Party.

The procedural guidelines and the calendar for the leadership race will be presented during the General Council which will take place on May 4th and 5th in Drummondville.  Recall that the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party will be elected via universal vote, according to a point system which will be weighted by riding and within which 33% of the votes will be reserved for members aged twenty-five (25) and under.
