MIRABEL, QC, June 18, 2018 – As part of the call for proposals for the creation of regional innovation hubs in Québec, the initiative of the Conseil des Préfets et des Élus de la Région des Laurentides, the Corporation de Développement Économique de la MRC des Laurentides and Laurentides International has been selected in the Laurentides region. The selection committee assessed each of the requests received by ensuring that eligibility criteria were met and that there was consultation in the community. This independent committee was composed of representatives from government, entrepreneurship and the fields of industrial innovation, regional economic development and finance.
Stéphane Billette, Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development, made the announcement today.
The regional innovation hubs will be areas of convergence that will encourage entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation. Their mission will be to stimulate collaboration and dialogue between different socioeconomic players. In all, the Government of Québec will invest more than $32 million to support the creation and implementation of 18 regional innovation hubs in Québec as well as a national network.
Quotes:
The regions of Québec have assets and qualities that set them apart and empower them. By focusing on the establishment of a comprehensive network of regional innovation hubs throughout Québec, including in the Laurentides, our government is ensuring it provides Québec entrepreneurs with all the help and expertise they need to innovate and grow their businesses. I would also like to congratulate the region on its excellent work during the call for proposals process.
– Stéphane Billette, Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development
Each region must determine the hub model that best fits its reality and improve it by taking its development into account. The project selected in the Laurentides will spark a real synergy within the new innovation hub created here by mobilizing all the active regional players in the field of entrepreneurship.
– Christine St-Pierre, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister responsible for the Laurentides region
