Vaccination: Quebec needs to stop improvising and clarify its strategy

In light of the federal government’s recent declarations about provincial governments’ vaccination strategies, especially as they relate to vaccine manipulation and dosage, the Official Opposition is asking the Government of Quebec to clarify its vaccination strategy and, most importantly, ensure that its strategy does not have any consequences on Quebecers’ immunity levels or on the supply of vaccines.

As part of its clarification, the Government of Quebec must also be sure to publicly and accurately state the interval at which citizens will be receiving their second dose of the vaccine. We also think that the new dosing recommendations should be approved by the competent authorities and by the vaccine manufacturers.

Recall that the vaccines from BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna were approved by Health Canada in accordance with strict dosing recommendations. At this time, neither of the companies has approved any changes to their recommendations. This situation is concerning and should be corrected immediately.

The government of Quebec doesn’t have the luxury of making mistakes in this file. It needs to be sure that its decisions do not have an impact on the supply or efficacy of the vaccines. Improvisation and approximation have no place in this current situation and I therefore ask the minister to clarify the situation and properly inform the population. The success of the vaccine and our ability to combat this pandemic depend on it.
