Whistleblower Fired — The QLP Demands an Investigation

QUEBEC, February 1, 2019 — The MNA for Maurice-Richard and Official Opposition Critic for Agriculture, Ms. Marie Montpetit, and the MNA for La Pinière and Official Opposition Critic for the Conseil du Trésor, Mr. Gaétan Barrette, ask that the Public Protector investigate the firing of whistleblower Louis Robert by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mr. André Lamontagne.

Protection for whistleblowers is fundamental in a democratic society. It is why we have put measures into place to protect them from all forms of reprisals. The Minister of Agriculture’s involvement in the firing of Louis Robert raises many troubling questions. The Minister must stop dodging the issue and clarify the situation immediately.

— Marie Montpetit, MNA for Maurice-Richard and Official Opposition Critic for Agriculture.

Yesterday, at the end of the day, the Premier not only contradicted his Minister of Agriculture, but also contradicted the official letter that was sent to Louis Robert. Faced with the government’s latest inconsistency, we would like the Public Protector to investigate the matter thoroughly in accordance with the powers entrusted to her under article 13 of Public Protector Act.

— Gaétan Barrette, MNA for La Pinière and Official Opposition Critic for the Conseil du Trésor
