Vicki-May Hamm

Vicki-May Hamm Has Big Ideas for the Estrie Region

With 16 years of experience in municipal politics, including 12 years as Mayor of Magog, Vicki-May Hamm was the first woman elected Mayor of the City of Magog.

During her times as mayor between 2009 and 2021, she earned a solid achievement record of serving Magog’s citizens. She and her team have responded to the regional challenge of the declining manufacturing sector by implementing Magog Technopole, an economic development strategy. The creation of this non-profit corporation for the development of technological businesses has led to the revival and diversification of Magog’s economy by using information and communication technologies as leverage for local economic development. Her major community contributions include converting Sainte-Marguerite-Marie church into a municipal library, the creation of the Espace Culturel de Magog, the restoration of the Maison Merry as a civic memorial and the revitalization of downtown Magog.

She was a Union des Municipalités du Québec board member and President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. The Liberal candidate was the recipient of the Municipal World’s “Women of Influence in Local Government” award in 2020 and the Mérite Estrien awarded by La Tribune in 2021. In 2014, she was awarded the Aequitas Award for her contribution to the goal of gender equity in places of power. In 2002, and again in 2021, the House of Commons awarded her the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee Medals to celebrate her major contributions to the community.

Vicki-May Hamm has also been involved as a panellist at several conferences on the role of women in politics, municipal economic and technology development strategies, the environment and rail safety. She has been involved in several organizations as honorary president and ambassador in recent years, such as Magog’s Relay for Life, Leucan’s Shaved Head Challenge, the Red Dress Gala, the Dare to Grow Challenge and Project F for the Memphremagog Hospital Foundation.

In 2021, she launched the book “Déployons nos Elles” on women’s leadership in order to financially support the Centre des Femmes Memphrémagog, of which she is a founding member.

In addition to being a grandmother of 6, an entrepreneur and a founding member of several community organizations in the Memphremagog region, she also acts as a consultant in business development and communications with the Entrepreneuriat Québec network.
