Saint-Anselme, May 25, 2018 – In order to attract a significant number of immigrants to the Chaudière-Appalaches region and ensure their long-term settlement, the Government of Québec is providing more than $1,138,000 in financial support to ten organizations in the region.

The financial support announced by Dominique Vien, MNA for Bellechasse, Minister responsible for Labour and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region, on behalf of David Heurtel, Minister of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusiveness, follows the commitments made by the Government of Québec as part of the forum validating diversity and the fight against discrimination.

Because Québec is experiencing its strongest economic growth in 15 years, has a low unemployment rate and will make 1.3 million jobs available within the next 10 years, immigration is a solution to support businesses’ economic growth and to encourage the development of Québec’s communities.

Quotes

It is inspiring to see so many organizations coming together to welcome and integrate immigrants who are working to promote the region’s socio-economic growth. Organizations that have demonstrated their expertise are creating and implementing measures, adapted to regional realities, to attract and retain the workforce in order to better meet the needs of local businesses and respond to the challenge of labour shortages.

– Dominique Vien, Minister responsible for Labour, Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region and MNA for Bellechasse

This major investment encourages elected municipal representatives, integration organizations and businesses to work together and will attract and retain a diverse workforce in the region, as Québec has a great need for labour. Through their actions, these partners are realizing Québec’s vision of a francophone and inclusive society that seeks greater prosperity by relying on immigration and the contribution of immigrants and people from diverse backgrounds.

– David Heurtel, Minister of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusiveness and MNA for Viau
