Montréal, February 12, 2018. – A sum of $1.5 million will be shared between 25 agencies in order to finance the implementation of projects promoting research, information, education and training pertaining to assistance to victims of crime. These grants will be used to support various projects, relating more particularly to domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Stéphanie Vallée, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Quebec, made the announcement today in Montréal in the company of David Birnbaum, MNA for D’Arcy-McGee and Mélanie Thivierge, CEO of Y des Femmes de Montréal (YWCA).
This allocation is the result of a call for projects launched in the summer of 2017.

To complete their projects, 15 organizations from the Montréal region will receive financial support totalling more than $876,000. Their services will benefit not only the people of Montréal, but also thousands of people across Quebec.

The Grant Program for Research, Information, Education and Training Pertaining to Assistance for Victims of Crime is funded by the Crime Victims Assistance Fund (FAVAC). Used mostly to support projects that help victims of crime, this special fund was established in 1988 by the Ministère de la Justice. Its revenue comes mainly from sums collected as a result of offences to Quebec penal laws and the Criminal Code, as well as sums related to the sharing of the proceeds of crime.
