Laval, April 20, 2026 - In the presence of the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, Charles Milliard, and a number of local activists, Cécile Tremblay was officially nominated as the QLP candidate in the Sainte-Rose riding.
Dr. Cécile Tremblay has been involved in healthcare for several decades, and is continuing her dedication to public service by entering provincial politics under the Liberal banner. A microbiologist-infectiologist and clinician-researcher at the CHUM for more than 20 years, she particularly stood out during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she multiplied her media interventions to popularize the science surrounding the evolution of the virus. Her numerous media appearances have made her a key figure in the popularization of health science among Quebecers.
She holds an undergraduate medical degree and a specialty in microbiology and infectious diseases from the Université de Montréal, as well as a fellowship in HIV research at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Tremblay has distinguished herself in the field as a pioneer in the advancement of knowledge on HIV, notably as principal investigator for Canada.
As such, Dr. Tremblay is fully aware of health and social services issues, particularly the disparity between the most vulnerable and marginalized populations when it comes to infections. This in-depth understanding of the realities on the ground reinforces the relevance of her expertise. She will be able to put her ideas and experience to good use for the benefit of the whole population.
Dr. Tremblay held the position of Director of the Public Health Laboratory and the AIDS-Infectious Diseases Network at the FRQS, reinforcing her ability to manage complex files and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Her social involvement has been the driving force behind her career. She has been actively involved with vulnerable populations, positioning public health at the heart of the development of a fair, equitable and inclusive society.
