Karine Malenfant, the Quebec Liberal Party’s official candidate in Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata–Les Basques

Rivière-du-Loup, July 27, 2026 — In the presence of Quebec Liberal Party leader Charles Milliard, Karine Malenfant was officially announced as the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) candidate in the Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata–Les Basques riding. A native of Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup, Karine Malenfant grew up and has made her life in the region, which she holds deeply in her heart. Until very recently, she served as principal of Collège Notre-Dame, a private high school with 550 students.

Karine Malenfant holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Université du Québec à Montréal. After completing her studies, she returned home to begin her career in tourism and event management. She then took on a leadership role at Collectivités écologiques Bas-Saint-Laurent (Co-éco), where she worked closely on the development of the first version of the Waste Management Plan, in addition to serving on the Bas-Saint-Laurent Regional Environmental Council, which she chaired for several years.

As Executive Director of the Rivière-du-Loup MRC Chamber of Commerce from 2014 to 2018, she made “buy local” her main cause—a commitment that is more relevant than ever in the current economic climate. During her tenure at the helm of this influential organization, she lent her expertise to numerous boards of directors that play a pivotal role in the Rivière-du-Loup economy, notably the SADC of the Rivière-du-Loup RCM, Tourisme Rivière-du-Loup, the Rivière-du-Loup Airport Corporation, and the Carrefour maritime.

As head of the Organizing Committee for the Quebec Games Finals in Rivière-du-Loup starting in 2018, Karine Malenfant faced several major challenges posed by the pandemic, including two successive postponements. The event was finally held in March 2023 and brought together 3,000 athletes and 2,200 volunteers, in addition to leaving a financial legacy of $550,000 for the community.

Today, Karine Malenfant is making the leap into provincial politics by joining the Quebec Liberal Party. She hopes to continue her commitment to her region, which she has served for many years.

“For me, the Quebec Liberal Party is the party of balance and responsibility. I share the vision of my leader, Charles Milliard, who aims to generate more wealth in order to build a strong economy that will ensure the sustainable funding of our public services, particularly in health care and education. I look forward to meeting with the voters of Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata–Les Basques to discuss their concerns and present our regionalist, nationalist, and federalist vision.”

— Karine Malenfant, QLP candidate in Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata–Les Basques

“One of our key commitments to improving our public services is to hold a national forum on education. It has been nearly 30 years since Quebec last took the opportunity to reflect collectively on its education system. A candidate like Karine Malenfant, with her experience leading Collège Notre-Dame, will help us better understand the realities on the ground, particularly in regions like the Bas-Saint-Laurent. Having come from the world of chambers of commerce myself, I am well-positioned to appreciate just how deeply rooted Karine is in her community. It’s excellent news—both for the riding and for the region—to be able to count on a candidate of her caliber!”
