Quebec City, May 4, 2026 - In the presence of Quebec Liberal Party leader Charles Milliard, René Verret was officially nominated as the QLP candidate in the Louis-Hébert riding.

A native of the greater Quebec City area, René Verret is making the leap into provincial politics after a legal career spanning almost 40 years. A specialist in judge and jury trials, he has distinguished himself in numerous high-profile cases.

Admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1984, he began his career as a Crown prosecutor in 1985 in Valleyfield. A few years later, he returned to Quebec City, where he practiced for nearly four decades. Over the course of his career, he also acted as a jury trial instructor at the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) Prosecutor's School for 15 years, in addition to teaching criminal law at the École du Barreau since 2002.

As a Crown prosecutor, he works on a daily basis with people from all walks of life. Like the law, democracy is based on the principle that all citizens are equal, and must be treated fairly. It is with this in mind that Mr. Verret wishes to continue his public commitment to the Quebec Liberal Party, a political party that has been a staunch defender of the rule of law and individual freedoms for over a century.

In 2011, René Verret became spokesperson for the office of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP), a position he held until 2017. In the process, he developed great communication skills, popularizing legal proceedings and ongoing trials. Today, he hopes to put his ease with the media and his ability to simplify often highly complex issues to political use.

A few years later, in 2019, at the age of 59, Me Verret retired from his role as Crown prosecutor, leaving the Direction des poursuites criminelles et pénales (DPCP) to join the private firm Boucher.

In the current political climate, Mr. Verret is keen to make a difference, particularly in the field of education in Quebec. Having benefited from a quality education throughout his career, he wishes to give back to his community by promoting the academic success of young people at all levels. He also attaches great importance to health, and in particular to the plight of the elderly - two priorities that align with those of Charles Milliard, leader of the Quebec Liberal Party.

"It's a great day for me that, after more than 40 years of public service in the legal sphere, mainly as a Crown prosecutor, I'm finally stepping into the political arena to pursue my commitment. I'm a local guy, and I worked for many years at the Quebec City courthouse, so I'm really looking forward to the chance to represent my fellow citizens, but this time from a political angle. I'd like to thank our leader, Charles Milliard, for his openness to my candidacy, and I'm firmly convinced that we're in good hands to win the next election campaign in the fall!"
- René Verret, QLP candidate in Louis-Hébert

"The citizens of the riding of Louis-Hébert are benefiting from a top-notch candidate, with the arrival on the scene of the legendary Me René Verret. His many years of experience as a star Crown prosecutor in the region, as well as his qualities as a expert of criminal law in the media, make him a choice candidate for our political party. I am deeply moved by his decision to pursue his public commitment to the QLP, and I believe he has all the qualities needed to enter the National Assembly and serve Quebecers."
- Charles Milliard, Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party
