By August 11, 2026No Comments

Montreal, August 5, 2026 — Michel Leblanc was officially announced as the candidate for the Marguerite-Bourgeoys riding alongside Quebec Liberal Party leader Charles Milliard.

A father of two boys, the economist by training and former president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Montreal is making the leap into provincial politics to join Charles Milliard and the Quebec Liberal Party.

With a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from the University of Montreal (UdeM), Michel Leblanc began his professional career as an economist with the Department of Finance Canada. In that role, he reviewed government spending programs to assess their relevance and promote the optimal use of public funds.

Over the years, the QLP candidate in Marguerite-Bourgeoys has held various executive positions at major organizations in the business sector. In particular, he has worked at the Institute for Research on Public Policy, Montréal International, Génome Québec, and as a consultant at SECOR. He is also the founding executive of the metropolitan region’s first industrial cluster, the life sciences cluster, now known as Montréal InVivo.

In 2009, Michel Leblanc became president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Montreal, a position he held for 16 years. In this role, he was at the center of decision-making in Quebec’s economic sphere, which gave him a keen understanding of current economic issues. His relationship with the provincial government, in his capacity as president of the province’s leading chamber of commerce, gave him insight into how Quebec’s government must act to foster sustainable economic development.

“After working in the business community for more than thirty years, I want to put the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career to good use by entering provincial politics. The reason for my involvement with the Quebec Liberal Party is simple: to me, the QLP has always been the true party of the economy. I have complete confidence in our leader, Charles Milliard, whom I worked alongside when he was president of the Federation of Quebec Chambers of Commerce. It is an honor for me to be working alongside him once again.”

“Michel Leblanc’s arrival in the broader Liberal family is great news for Quebec’s political scene. Regardless of his political affiliation, Michel has an impressive track record in economics, thanks to the positions he has held within major organizations. Quebecers deserve a government made up not only of new political faces, but also of people with solid economic experience who can meet the aspirations of the public.”
