Montreal, June 14, 2026 — In the presence of several local activists, Mr. Monsef Derraji was officially nominated as the QLP candidate in the Nelligan riding.

A native of Marrakech, Morocco, Mr. Derraji is seeking a third term as the Member of the National Assembly for Nelligan. First elected in 2018, he has since held leading roles in the National Assembly of Quebec. As the Official Opposition’s spokesperson on health and on transportation and sustainable mobility, he also chairs the Public Administration Committee.

Throughout his two terms in office, Mr. Derraji has also served as the official opposition’s parliamentary leader and as a spokesperson on issues as diverse as finance, energy, immigration, higher education, infrastructure, and ethics—a career path that demonstrates his versatility and the trust his party has placed in him.

A hands-on professional, Mr. Derraji holds a Ph.D. in public health from the University of Montreal (2022), an MBA from Laval University, a master’s degree in science and technology from Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, as well as certifications in pharmacoeconomics and corporate governance (ASC, C.Dir.). Before entering provincial politics in 2018, he spent more than fifteen years working in the pharmaceutical industry for major multinational companies. He subsequently served as president and CEO of the Regroupement des jeunes chambres de commerce du Québec from 2015 to 2018.

Throughout his two terms in office, the representative for Nelligan has been a staunch advocate for health care, transparency, and social equity. In particular, he introduced an amendment recognizing Parkinson’s disease as an occupational illness, campaigned to defend Nemaska Lithium’s small shareholders, and repeatedly called for an end to the public health emergency. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also set an example by volunteering for two weeks at the CHSLD Herron in Dorval, right in the heart of the red zone.

Mr. Derraji’s commitment extends far beyond politics. He co-founded and served as president of the Maghreb Congress of Quebec beginning in 2009 and was president of the municipal party Vision Montréal. An avid chess player, he organizes the “Tournoi du Député,” now in its fifth year, which brings together young people from Nelligan every year. Mr. Derraji lives in the riding with his wife and their two children.

“I arrived in Quebec with a degree in hand, and Quebec has given me everything. Every day in the National Assembly, I think about the families in my district, their concerns, and their hopes. It is for them that I am fighting; it is for them that I am seeking a third term; and it is as part of a united Liberal team, under the inspiring leadership of our leader, Charles Milliard, that we will give them the government they deserve.”

— Monsef Derraji, QLP candidate in Nelligan

“For eight years now, the Liberal caucus has been fortunate to have Monsef at the table. A unifying force, meticulous, and deeply committed to his fellow citizens, Monsef Derraji is an exceptional member of the National Assembly, whose dedication extends far beyond the walls of the Assembly. Whether it’s championing issues related to health care, transportation, and the integrity of our institutions, volunteering at the Herron long-term care facility in the midst of the pandemic, or organizing his chess tournament for the youth of Nelligan, he has always put citizens first. Monsef embodies the Liberal values of justice, openness, and service. I’m really looking forward to campaigning alongside him!”

- Charles Milliard, Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party
