Val-d’Or, July 6, 2026 — In the presence of Quebec Liberal Party Leader Charles Milliard and local party members, Mr. Pierre Dufour was officially announced as the Quebec Liberal Party’s candidate in the Abitibi-Est riding for the upcoming general election.
A well-known figure in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Pierre Dufour has dedicated his career to the economic development of his region and to serving its citizens. As the Member of the National Assembly for Abitibi-Est since 2018, he has notably served as Minister of Forests, Wildlife, and Parks, as well as Minister responsible for Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Northern Quebec, where he worked to defend the regions’ interests and advance several priority issues for the communities he represents.
Before entering politics, Pierre Dufour worked for more than 25 years to promote economic, tourism, and community development in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. In particular, he headed the Vallée-de-l’Or Local Development Center, the Val-d’Or Tourism and Convention Bureau, as well as the Cité de l’Or and the Bourlamaque Mining Village. In these roles, he mentored entrepreneurs, supported key development projects, and helped raise the region’s profile.
Known for his hands-on approach and his close ties to the community, Pierre Dufour has also been involved in numerous economic, sports, and community organizations, including the Val-d’Or Chamber of Commerce and several organizations focused on tourism development and regional heritage.
After several years representing the citizens of Abitibi-Est, Pierre Dufour has now decided to continue his public service as part of the Quebec Liberal Party’s team, alongside Charles Milliard. He hopes to continue defending the interests of his region, giving a voice to Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and contributing to a political agenda focused on economic development, regional vitality, and tangible results for citizens.
“Since the beginning of my public service, my priority has always been the same: to stand up for the people of Abitibi-Est and move our region forward. I have always believed that an elected official must stay connected to the people, listen to them, and work to achieve results. Today, I have chosen to continue this work alongside Charles Milliard and his team because I believe in their economic vision, their commitment to empowering the regions, and their ambition for Quebec. The residents of Abitibi-Est can always count on me to defend their interests with the same energy and determination.”
— Pierre Dufour, Quebec Liberal Party candidate in Abitibi-Est
“Pierre Dufour’s arrival on our team sends a clear message: we want to bring together experienced people who share a common commitment to moving Quebec forward. Pierre knows Abitibi-Témiscamingue, its residents, its businesses, and its realities. For years, he has been working on the ground to develop his region and give it a voice. His experience, his knowledge of the regions, and his commitment to economic development will be major assets for our team and for building the next government.”
