Québec City, May 31, 2018 – Over the next five years, the Government of Québec intends to double the presence of visible and ethnic minorities among its workers. The objective is to reach 18% representation in order to better reflect Québec’s reality.
The Salon de l’immigration et de l’intégration au Québec, which took place in Montréal on May 30 and 31, is an example of an action taken to reach this target.
Through its new equal access to employment program for members of visible and ethnic minorities, which will be implemented soon, the government will bring in various measures: financial support for moving, employment integration, mechanisms for structured exchange with the target population, awareness raising for managers and teams, promotion of jobs and careers.
2018–2023 human resources management strategy
Between now and 2023, the government will use half of the $41.5 million promised to implement the action strategy to increase diversity among public service workers. In the face of a labour shortage and considering that an estimated 15,000 regular jobs will become available in the next five years, the contribution of members of visible and ethnic minorities is greatly desired. Several occupations are already experiencing strong demand: administrative staff, engineers, actuaries, economists, IT specialists, co-pilots, public works technicians, and others.

Key point:
- The recently announced 2018–2023 National Workforce Strategy aims to respond to the challenge of filling many positions over the next five years in Québec. To accomplish this, $800 million has been invested, $324.1 million of which is reserved for improving the attraction, selection, and integration of immigrants in the workforce.
