International Solidarity

QUEBEC, July 31, 2018 – The Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, Ms. Christine St-Pierre, announced $3,416,834 of funding for Quebec international cooperation organizations that support international solidarity projects in 17 countries within Francophone Africa, Latin America, the West Indies and Asia, as well as here in Québec.

The initiatives supported by this financial assistance will help fulfill needs conveyed by  the target population and are part of the global issues to which Quebec is committed, such as human rights, the fight against climate change, food safety, inclusive economic development and gender equality.

Specifically, these new grants will fund:

  • 171 young people from Quebec and from partner countries becoming socially engaged and contributing to initiatives in local communities in partner countries, for a total of 1.2 million dollars;
  • 14 development projects in intervention sectors such as health, agriculture, governance and civil society or for inclusive economic development, for a total budget of 2.1 million dollars;
  • The completion of 5 global citizen education projects, which aim to foster awareness, participation or mobilization within Quebec’s population about sustainable development and international solidarity objectives, totalling $90,000 dollars.

Quotes:

True to the orientations we established in our international policy, Quebec’s approach to solidarity aims to be effective and is based on mobilization and partnerships. By supporting the expertise of our organizations and their local partners, we are concretely contributing to facing the global issues that affect us all.
