Laval, May 14, 2026 - In the presence of the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, Charles Milliard, and more than a hundred activists from the region, Virginie Dufour was officially nominated as the QLP candidate in the Mille-Îles riding at a ceremony held on Saturday May 9, 2026, in preparation for the general election on October 5, 2026.

A native of Laval and mother of two, Ms. Dufour is seeking a second term as MNA for Mille-Îles. Over the past four years, she has served as Official Opposition critic for the environment, housing and municipal affairs. She is also spokesperson for the Lanaudière and Laurentides regions, a member of the Bureau of the Quebec National Assembly and Quebec's representative to the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie.

During her mandate, Ms. Dufour supported over 575 requests from organizations in the riding under the Volunteer Support Program. Concrete results include the creation of a sensory unit at CHSLD de La Pinière, the installation of a hydroponic garden at L'Envol school, the acquisition of a new refrigerator for Bonjour Aujourd'hui et Après Meals on Wheels, a new watering pump for Ferme Jeunes au Travail, scientific equipment for École des Ormeaux and a new telescope for the Laval Astronomical Observatory. The MNA also supported the toponymic project that renamed Parc Clichy in tribute to Maurice Clermont, former Mille-Îles MNA and city councillor.

At the National Assembly, Ms. Dufour tabled 4 bills, 4 initiative mandates and 10 petitions. She studied 28 bills and put 66 questions to the government, defending issues such as home ownership, funding for public services in Laval and PFAS contamination of Quebec waterways. One of her bills on differentiated zoning was incorporated into another piece of legislation passed by the National Assembly. Ms. Dufour is also the only Canadian elected representative to have joined the Interparliamentary Coalition to Stop Plastic Pollution.

With an MBA, Ms. Dufour began her political involvement at the municipal level when she was elected to the Ville de Laval council, in the Sainte-Rose district, from 2013 to 2021. As a member of the executive committee, she is responsible for issues relating to the environment, urban planning, information technology and the status of women. She sits on the Urban Planning Advisory Committee from 2013 to 2021 and set up the Environmental Advisory Committee, which she chairs from 2018 to 2021. She is also a member of the Transportation Commission from 2014 to 2021. In 2019, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities named her Municipal Climate Champion for her role in protecting Laval's natural environments, notably the three Grandes Îles.

Building on her experience in municipal politics, Virginie Dufour makes the leap into provincial politics in 2022 as a Liberal candidate in the riding of Mille-Îles.

Ms. Dufour's commitment extends beyond politics. She has served as Chairman of the Board of the Association québécoise d'urbanisme, the first woman to hold the position, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tricentris sorting center, as Chairman of the Board of the Centre local de développement de Laval, and as a member of the Boards of Directors of Montréal International and Laval Technopole. Over the years, she has also been a speaker and panelist on issues relating to the environment, climate change, mobility and sustainable development.

"After four years of commitment to the citizens of Mille-Îles, I wish to continue my involvement in order to bring to fruition the projects that are close to my heart, particularly in terms of the environment and housing, in a context of housing crisis. I have every confidence in our new leader, Charles Milliard, whom I supported from his very first leadership race last year."

- Virginie Dufour, Quebec Liberal Party candidate in Mille-Îles

"I'm delighted to have Virginie Dufour back with me on the Liberal team for the next election. Virginie has been an outstanding spokesperson on important environmental and housing issues for Quebecers. Thanks to her experience at the municipal level, she is an important member of the Liberal caucus and an excellent representative of the citizens of Montreal's North Shore. I look forward to continuing to work with her in the years to come

- Charles Milliard, Leader of the Quebec Liberal Party
