Public transit – Greater Montréal
LONGUEUIL, QC, July 4, 2018 – The Government of Québec will contribute financially to a number of studies that will be conducted by the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) for the development of public transit. The studies will focus on actions aimed at developing the regional public transit network around the Orange and Yellow lines, around the axis connecting northeast Montréal to southwest Montréal, on the North Shore, and around a possible extension of the Pie-IX BRT.
These studies will be eligible for a maximum of $14.75 million in funding under the Programme d’aide gouvernementale au transport collectif des personnes (PAGTCP).
Quotes:
We work with the municipal sector everyday to improve the movement of Québec residents. We believe in municipal autonomy when it comes to setting the region’s public transit priorities and facilitating the movement and lives of families. The ARTM is proposing concrete solutions to facilitate travel. Improving traffic fluidity depends on the development of public transit services. The studies planned by the ARTM are in line with the Québec policy on sustainable mobility launched this spring, and I salute the organization’s approach. A comprehensive approach is needed to plan public transit on a city-wide scale. That’s why we are working with the sector to move forward with its projects.
– André Fortin, Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transport Electrification
As the strategic plan for the development of public transit services progresses, the ARTM remains proactive and responsive to the needs of municipalities and mobility partners. By working with these stakeholders through an open process to determine the initiatives that can be studied and can contribute to the strategic development plan, the ARTM is demonstrating leadership and bringing together mobility stakeholders to develop a shared vision of public transit for the coming decades.
– Pierre Shedleur, President of the Board of Directors of the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain
