Montréal, September 29, 2026 – The leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, Charles Milliard, has pledged to make the housing crisis—and its disproportionate impact on the cost of living for Quebecers—a priority during his first term.
A Quebec Liberal Party government will work from day one to create the right conditions for building 100,000 housing units per year in collaboration with the housing sector and Quebec’s key economic stakeholders. It also commits to adding 40,000 social and affordable housing units within five years, with the goal of reaching a 20 percent share of off-market housing throughout the province by 2050.
To limit the impact of the crisis on Quebec’s most vulnerable residents, the PLQ is also committed to capping rent increases in RPA housing, expanding the rent supplement program, and preventing evictions that result in homelessness throughout Quebec.
« Over the past eight years, the housing crisis has reached unprecedented proportions and affects the daily lives of millions of Quebecers who struggle to pay their rent or save enough for a down payment to finally become homeowners. We must regain control of this crisis by unlocking our potential for housing construction and maintaining a sufficient share of social and affordable housing. »
