Montreal, September 21, 2026 — The Quebec Liberal Party is presenting its comprehensive plan to accelerate economic and social development in East Montreal. Led by its candidates in the 14 ridings of eastern Montreal, this plan is based on four priorities: modernizing the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, expanding public transit, ensuring access to housing, and remediating contaminated sites.
1. Make the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital a true priority
A Liberal government will see through the entire project to expand and modernize Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, viewing it as a strategic asset for the development of all of East Montreal. The various phases of the project will be included in the Quebec Infrastructure Plan, with clearly defined funding and a timeline. The plan also calls for improving access to primary care and family physicians in the East.
2. Complete the extension of the Blue Line
The Liberals will ensure that the work is completed quickly. Development around the future stations should promote mobility, housing, and the commercial vitality of the neighborhoods, while taking residents’ concerns into account.
3. Build consensus around a transformative public transportation project
A Liberal government will bring together the various levels of government, local stakeholders, and the public to build political and social consensus around a truly comprehensive and integrated public transit network to serve the East, whether it takes the form of a REM or a streetcar.
4. Increase the supply of public and affordable housing
The plan calls for the construction of social and affordable housing, particularly near public transit networks, as well as the implementation of more effective measures to prevent housing loss. This proposal is part of the Quebec Liberal Party’s housing plan, which aims to eventually build 100,000 housing units per year, as well as its plan to end homelessness.
5. Accelerate soil remediation and support economic vitality
A Liberal government will expedite the decontamination and redevelopment of land in the East to promote housing construction, business establishment, and the sustainable development of the region. It will also support the revitalization of commercial districts.
