Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, September 22, 2026 – To address the strong population and economic growth on Montreal’s South Shore, Quebec Liberal Party leader Charles Milliard has pledged to move forward with the project to widen Highway 30 between Brossard and Boucherville during his first term.
Highway 30 serves the main employment and service hubs of the Montérégie region along a corridor of approximately 140 km, connecting Vaudreuil-Dorion to Sorel-Tracy. Since its completion in 2012, it has served as a bypass to the west of Montreal, facilitating access to Ontario and the United States. This makes it a key artery for trucking. Furthermore, since it connects to the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) in Brossard, a significant number of buses travel along it to serve public transit users.
In 2026, traffic volume on the stretch connecting Brossard and Boucherville was estimated at between 50,000 and 85,000 vehicles per day, 15% of which would be trucks.
A Necessary Project Focused on Public Transportation
A liberal government is committed to:
- Add one lane in each direction on the section of Highway 30 connecting Brossard and Boucherville;
- Redesign the on-ramps and interchanges in the area to adapt them to their new use;
- Implement a dynamic management system for these new lanes to reserve them for public transportation and carpooling.
The CAQ has reneged on its promise
In 2018, the CAQ promised to carry out the project during its first term, but no progress has been made. Today, the CAQ is making the same promise it made during the last two elections, but refuses to move the project forward.
“People on Montreal’s South Shore have been waiting far too long after the CAQ’s empty promises. The existing road infrastructure is no longer sufficient to meet the region’s growth. Our commitment is clear: we will revive the project and ensure that public transit is at the heart of our redevelopment efforts. It’s time for the issues facing the South Shore to receive the attention they deserve.”
