David Lavoie

Biography

As a cultural entrepreneur for over 25 years, I have dedicated my career to advancing community projects and strengthening institutions that contribute to Québec’s cultural, economic, and social vitality.

As a co-founder of Théâtre Aux Écuries, I supported the emergence of a new generation of artists before leading the Festival TransAmériques, a major international performing arts event in Montreal. As head of the Les Arts et la Ville network, I worked with municipalities across Quebec to improve community life. I also served as chair of the board of directors of the Caisse Desjardins de la Culture.

I grew up in a single-parent household with four children and limited means. Today, as the father of two young adults who are looking for their first place to live in Montreal, I have a real sense of the challenges faced by the younger generations and families here. I believe in a vibrant neighborhood life, in culture that’s accessible to everyone, and in a socio-ecological transition. And in my spare time, I practice kung fu.

I am running for office in Rosemont because the decisions that most directly affect our daily lives—housing, health care, and transportation—are made in Quebec City. I want to be the voice of the neighborhood and use my experience to deliver tangible results for all of its communities.

My Commitments to Rosemont

Housing and Cost of Living — Ease the pressure on housing and the cost of living so that local families can stay in their neighborhoods.

Health — Accelerate construction of the new Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and improve access to community-based care, particularly in mental health.

Transport — Ensure improvements to bus service and move forward with a major public transit project for East Montreal.

Neighborhood Life — Support community organizations and local businesses (Promenade Masson, P’tit Beaubien, Bélanger and Rosemont streets) and boost local entrepreneurship.

Immigration — Work toward inclusion and social cohesion, and fully recognize the contribution of immigrants to Quebec society.
