Hugo Fontaine

Biography

Born and raised in Sherbrooke, in the St-Élie neighborhood, Hugo Fontaine is a former journalist and manager who deeply believes that, together, we can improve the lives of our fellow citizens and help Québec thrive. Regional development, the creation of collective wealth, and the responsible management of taxpayer funds are the driving forces behind his political commitment.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in political science, Hugo worked as a journalist at La Tribune, then at La Presse, where he specialized in business and financial journalism. He headed the Business section at La Presse for several years. Returning to the Estrie region in 2021 to take the helm of La Tribune as general manager, he spearheaded the newspaper’s digital transformation and the evolution of its business model. He has been actively involved in his community by serving on the boards of directors for Centraide Estrie and the Estrie Book Fair, in addition to actively contributing to the development of the “Génies en herbe” program in Estrie’s high schools.

Hugo lives in the Saint-Élie area with his partner, their three children… and Grandma! He chose to run in the riding riding in Richmond not only because he lives there, but also because he is inspired by the area’s urban-rural duality.

Hugo Fontaine wants to promote the growth of our local small and medium-sized businesses, including agricultural and agri-food companies, support the development of our youth, and encourage social initiatives that make a difference in people’s lives.
