Biography
Karine Malenfant holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Université du Québec à Montréal. After completing her studies, she returned home to begin her career in tourism and event management. She then took on a leadership role at Collectivités écologiques Bas-Saint-Laurent (Co-éco), where she worked closely on the development of the first version of the Waste Management Plan, in addition to serving on the Bas-Saint-Laurent Regional Environmental Council, which she chaired for several years.
As Executive Director of the Rivière-du-Loup MRC Chamber of Commerce from 2014 to 2018, she made “buy local” her main cause—a commitment that is more relevant than ever in the current economic climate. During her tenure at the helm of this influential organization, she lent her expertise to numerous boards of directors that play a pivotal role in the Rivière-du-Loup economy, notably the SADC of the Rivière-du-Loup RCM, Tourisme Rivière-du-Loup, the Rivière-du-Loup Airport Corporation, and the Carrefour maritime.
As head of the Organizing Committee for the Quebec Games Finals in Rivière-du-Loup starting in 2018, Karine Malenfant faced several major challenges posed by the pandemic, including two successive postponements. The event was finally held in March 2023 and brought together 3,000 athletes and 2,200 volunteers, in addition to leaving a financial legacy of $550,000 for the community.
Today, Karine Malenfant is making the leap into provincial politics by joining the Quebec Liberal Party. She hopes to continue her commitment to her region, which she has served for many years.
